New Gladstone OnRecord product suite revolutionises card and fingerprint systems for the education market

Taking paper registers could soon be a thing of the past, according to Gladstone Education. The technology company has developed Gladstone OnRecord™, a highly advanced and flexible application which can be used to register students in the Primary, Secondary and Further Education sectors.

Simple to use

The concept is simple; the responsibility for registration is with the students, using card-swipe or fingerprint recognition to enter the classroom. Teachers and administrators are not required to do any paperwork or learn any new complex technology. They can use a simple web-based administration console to view and amend registration information if required.

In addition to electronic registration, the company provides cashless catering solutions and facilitates integration with access control systems. The Gladstone OnRecord suite of products all work using a single student identification card.

From its commitment to continuous research and development the company has now successfully developed electronic registration and cashless catering systems using biometric fingerprint and MIFARE® based proximity cards. The Gladstone OnRecord application was developed using the Microsoft .NET framework and an SQL database engine, producing highly flexible solutions that can be easily tailored to specific client requirements.

How schools benefit

The benefits of Gladstone OnRecord to schools are numerous and include:
* automatic detection of internal and external truancy
* encouraging higher attendance and better punctuality amongst students
* reduction in the administrative duties for both teachers and office staff

Primary schools can use the system to track attendance in combination with cash management for school dinners, reducing the need to employ staff to collect cash, carry out administration, and manage meal uptake.

Further education colleges and school 6th forms can produce internal management reports on staff and asset utilisation, and external reports for the Learning Skills Council on student attendance. Gladstone OnRecord™ can also be used to manage student eligibility for the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) scheme.
